Evil Republicans Pressured, Fired U.S. Attorneys

The Republican bastards pressured and then fired six U.S. attorneys in one of the first witch hunts of the Democratic season:

Six former U.S. attorneys told two congressional committees Tuesday that Republican lawmakers inquired about politically sensitive investigations, and their testimony raised new questions about whether the Bush administration removed the attorneys for political rather than professional reasons.

The U.S. attorneys, all of whom were appointed by President Bush, contradicted the administration's version of their sudden firings.

David Iglesias, the former U.S. attorney in New Mexico, described separate phone calls from Sen. Pete Domenici and Rep. Heather Wilson, both New Mexico Republicans, about a corruption probe that involved at least one Democrat a month before the November elections and weeks before he was fired. At the time, Wilson was in a re-election race that she later won by 875 votes out of nearly 211,000 cast.

Late in October, Iglesias said, Domenici called him at home to ask whether an indictment would be issued against Democrats in New Mexico before the November election. When Iglesias replied that it was unlikely, he said, Dominici expressed disgust and suddenly hung up on him.

"I felt sick afterwards," Iglesias said. "I felt leaned on. I felt pressured to get these cases moving."

Bush is behind it all.
